Influential women in psychology W.S PSY/310 September 25, 2012 Dennis Duffin Introduction In researching influential women and the evidential contributions they have make to the field of psychology, I break-danceed that it was two an enlightening and somewhat discouraging experience. enlightening in that I had discovered that the list of women who had made square contributions to psychology was so extensive it was a difficult occupation to choose reasonable one. Discouraging in that it was disconcerting to discover even as late as 1976 that only 9 of the 255 (or 3.5 percent) biographies and autobiographies dedicated to psychology dealt with the lives of women (Russo & Denmark, 1987). Notable women such as Anna Freud the girlfriend of Sigmund Freud and her founding of tike psychoanalysis, to Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and her do work with understanding conclusion and grief, to Melanie Klein and the therapeutic cont ributions she made with children with a technique cognize as play therapy just to yell a few. While I found the vast absolute majority of female psychologists and the contributions they had made fascinating, in the end I chose Melanie Klein.
